Moving the Christmas Tree to the Hospital

Yep.  Both kids are going into the hospital tomorrow for the entire Christmas break.  Airline tickets home...down the toilet.  (I haven't told my mom yet...could use some prayer for that conversation.  It's going to kill her.)  Emily's lung functions are the lowest they've ever been.  Chase isn't great either.  All this after I spent the week of Thanksgiving in the hospital in Chattanooga of all places.

To be sure we WILL make the most of it.  We are getting a family room and moving our Christmas Tree and all of our decorations in.  Emily's hair is platinum blonde and today she put purple and pink extensions in.  If she's going to be in the hospital she wants to at least look spicy!  I'll try and get some pix if I can!

Chase's (girl)friend Joy was going to join us for part of the trip to TX to meet family so he is expecially down about that...  Not to mention that he will be in the hospital for Christmas AND his birthday (Dec 31.)  Just pray for their hearts.  We will have fun with it, but they really do get the short end of the stick a lot.

Pray that we can spread a little Christmas cheer while we're there.  God knows there are plenty of people there who need it and are much worse off than the Nichols.

Go HERE for new songs

I'm beginning to put some songs together to record my second project.  I decided to have you help me pick songs and evaluate what goes on the record.  As I finish songs, I'm recording VERY rough demos with just my voice, my guitar and the church soundboard (going straight to CD.)  You can go to www.chadnicholsmusic.mypodcast.com to find and download these ROUGH demos along with lyrics and brief song stories.  Make sure you read the page intro at the top.  There are 7-8 songs on there now.  I'll be adding new songs each week.  Please listen and leave comments...  I'm hoping to record in January / February.

Hands Above My Head

Recently wrote a new song called "Hands Above My Head."  You can hear a ROUGH demo on my myspace page (www.myspace.com/chadnichols)

Here's the "Behind the Music" story...

The past two months have sucked.  Chase was in the hospital for 15 days; my car broke down...multiple times; my grandmosther past away (wasn't able to go to the funeral because of all of the crap going on here that required shelling out cash); the dog ate my good pair of glasses; my mom had major surgery (again...couldn't afford to go); I rammed someone's car with my "rhino of a car"...and I had to sell my guitars to cover all of this junk.

I had joked about writing a song called "Prayer for Floatation"...as I felt like I was sinking fast.

I have been frustrated by the way I have responded to these sorts of trials...  I act as if I deserve better...and host a pitty party when I don't get it.

I was led to write a song placing myself back under the lordship of Christ...regardless of whether I float or sink. He has called me to follow him...to walk by faith and not by sight. I felt the need to say, "I may not have the most graceful gait, but I CAN follow you one step at a time...and I WILL worship all along the way. I will say YES...again."

Like I said, it's rough...but o, well.  It's just me and the guitar through the soundboard at the church.  Enjoy.  (You can click the "Lyrics" tab on the music player to see lyrics if ya want.)

Chase Update

As requested, here is the Chase Update...  He got out of the hospital last Thursday (15 day stay) and started his Jr year of high school on Monday...two weeks late...but hey, he made an entrance!

Sometimes at dinner I'll ask everyone to name their favorite part of the day.   Last night Emily said her favorite part was seeing Chase in the hall at school.  (They've been at seperate schools for the past two years.)  Of course Chase was at a friend's house so it was easier for her to say it, but nonetheless, they are in a VERY cool season.  They are actually very close friends.  It's way cool.

Some not so great things happened over the last few weeks, but I reserve the right to keep this a "good news only" post, so...  That's all ya get this time around.  We're a week or so away from pulling the trigger on Em's new drum set.  We kept having to move it back because of...ooops...good news only!  I'll post a pic of her behind it when she actually gets it!

In the meantime, here are a couple of pix...
